SOURCE Calcif Tissue Int 1995 Jun;56(6):529-32 ABSTRACT The values of in vivo T1 relaxation time (T1) of phosphorus atoms of wrist bone have been measured by phosphorus-31 magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) in 65 menopausal women separated into three groups: (1) age-matched women without any paraclinical or clinical osteoporosis; (2) patients with paraclinical osteoporosis detected only by dual photonic absorptiometry; and (3) women with clinical osteoporosis with vertebral fractures. No significant differences were found in T1 values in the presence of paraclinical or clinical osteoporosis as compared to control values. No relationships were found among the T1, the value of the Z-score, the value of bone mineral content, the age of patients, the number of their children, and the age of menopause. Phosphorus-31 magnetic resonance spectroscopy of the wrist fails to separate osteoporotic from nonosteoporotic women and cannot be clinically used at this time to perform a noninvasive diagnosis of osteoporosis. SOURCE VETERINARSKI ARHIV; 66 (6). 1996. 227-239. ABSTRACT BIOSIS COPYRIGHT: BIOL ABS. The aim of this study to investigate the effects of internal contamination with a lethal level of bone-seeking isotopes 32P-333 MBq per kilogram of body mass - on mineral metabolism and alkaline phosphatase activity for detecting damage caused by 32P on the organism of chickens. Experiments were carried out on fifty-day-old hybrid chickens of the "Jata" breed of both sexes. The concentration of calcium, magnesium and inorganic phosphorus, as well as the activity or alkaline phosphatase, were determined in blood plasma of chickens. Obtained results showed the following: 1) magnesium concentration was significantly reduced on the first and seventh days after contamination; 2) two significant drops of calcium values on the first and third days after contamination; 3) phosphorus concentration was significantly reduced on the seventh day, and 4) alkaline phosphatase activity was significantly increased on the first day after injection of 32P. 15 AUTHOR Zhu S AUTHOR Wang L AUTHOR Xia F AUTHOR Yang S TITLE Selective retention of (147)Pm in skeleton and its injury effect on immune cells of bone marrow studied by liquid scintillation counting. SOURCE Govt Reports Announcements & Index (GRA&I), Issue 04, 1992 ABSTRACT TD3: The purpose of the present study is to ascertain the retention reculiarity in organism by varying doses of (sup 147)Pm and its injury effect on immune cells of bone marrow. The experimental groups of BALB/C strain mice were injected intravenously with 37, 1.85 x 10(sup 2), 9.25 x 10(sup 2), 3.7 x 10(sup 3), 1.85 x 10(sup 4) and 1.85 x 10(sup 5) Bq/g respectively. The radioactivities in liver, kidney, skeleton, lung and blood samples were determined by liquid scintillation. The results showed that the most of (sup 147)Pm was deposited in skeleton, then in liver, blood, kidney and lung. The absorbed doses in skeleton increases as the intake of (sup 147)Pm increases. At the same time, the incorporation of (sup 3)H-TdR in immune cell of bone marrow is remarkably decreased. It shows, under the radiation of (sup 147)Pm, the DNA synthesis function is inhibited, and the immune cell of bone marrow is seriously injured. SOURCE Govt Reports Announcements & Index (GRA&I), Issue 04, 1991 ABSTRACT TD3: Study of accumulation peculiarity of (sup 147)Pm showed that I.V. different doses of (sup 147)Pm were the same selectively localized in skeleton and liver. Retention of (sup 147)Pm in skeleton and liver was elevated when the radioactive doses of (sup 147)Pm were increased. At the same time absorption does of (sup 147)Pm radiation was heightened. The ability of (sup 147)Pm to induce sister chromatid exchanges (SCEs) has been investigated by IdU labelling methods. A statistically significant elevation of SCEs was observed after (sup 147)Pm intake. In mice the number of SCEs per cell in bone marrow cells was always higher when the animals were maintained on the doses of 37 Bq/g. The injurious effects of (sup 147)Pm, using PCE's micronucleus rates in bone marrow cells were observed. (sup 147)Pm was dominantly deposited on maternal liver. Deposition of (sup 147)Pm in maternal spleen was about quandrantal of the maternal liver. Studies indicated that maternal contamination of (sup 147)Pm could induced chromosome aberrations in fetal liver and spleen cells. Among the type of aberrations induced by (sup 147)Pm, chromatid breakage were predominant. The incidence of chromosome aberrations on fetal liver cells induced by (sup 147)Pm was higher on fetal spleen cells. (Atomindex citation 21:052887) In Chinese.
