OPEN LETTER

IMERYS UNION-BUSTING CAMPAIGN
IN ALABAMA AND GEORGIA, USA

11 February 2000

Mr. Patrick Kron
Chief Executive
IMERYS

FRANCE

Dear Mr. Kron

The Cornwall District Committee of the Transport and General Workers' Union met yesterday to discuss a number of issues, one of which was Imerys' anti-union campaign being waged in the USA.

The District Committee deplores this appalling behaviour by a European company and condemns the dismissals, intimidation and illegal actions being carried out in Imerys; name. We call upon you as Chief Executive to call an immediate halt to this unacceptable and clearly illegal campaign and instead give Imerys workers in America the freedom of choice. They have a democratic right in this millennium year to belong to a trade union and Imerys should respect that right.

Within Europe the trade unions and management are working well together for the benefit of the company and its employees. Surely this is more productive and the right way forward for Imerys (USA) also.

Yours sincerely
