Unlike her opponent, Saundra has not accepted donations from developers who might require decisions before the Board of County Commissioners on property they own from which they might profit economically. Her race has been mostly supported by community advocates and people concerned about the fairness of growth being managed to insure economic vitality. Saundra's opponent has accepted several thousand dollars from developers which could pose a conflict of interest in his decision making if he is elected to the quasi-judicial position of Jefferson County Commissioner. Because of these donations, he has raised $44,000 in comparison to her $18,700. This de-legitimizes the campaign equation, making it more difficult for her to get out her message about managing growth in a balanced, responsible and thoughtful manner, and seeing to it that growth pays its own way rather than being subsidized by current taxpayer dollars - to the degradation of everyone's quality of life. Growth paying its own way is about equity. It is in this spirit that we present the Jeffco Developers' Award to Richard Sheehan.
