Imerys of France has acquired the EUR 55 M turnover Quimbarra calcium carbonate subsidiary of the US industrial gases group Praxair. Quimbarra is the largest producer of natural and precipitated calcium carbonate in South America. The calcium carbonate market is forecast to increase by between 8% and 10% annually during 2000 to 2005. Imerys now runs 33 natural calcium carbonate plants and has interests in 16 other plants producing precipitated calcium carbonate. |
