My question is:Where would a company be without employees? The answer: OUT OF BUSINESS!!! We give our lives for our employer. Our job is to provide them the labor needed to produce a quality product. We need union representation so we are not taken advantage of, as has been the case at Imerys. We deserve better pay and benefits for the job we do. A union is only as strong as its members, and supporters at Imerys are willing to stand up for what we deserve. Union supporters are willing to pay for representation. Representation will give us a voice, as a organized group of laborers in how our jobs are run. We have not had this at Imerys.
Our union stewards will be our peers. They will be employees of Imerys, not an outside entity. Yes, the union officials will be here after the union is voted in. They will ensure that the negotiated contract is upheld. And right now, I have more confidence in my union reps than my own management.
I'll tell you what is good for me and my family, better wages and benefits. It's obvious that the management at Imerys are provided for more than adequately. What about us grunts? The ones who make it all happen. Imerys will not close its doors to the largest, biggest money making quarry in the world. Is this a company issue or a local management issue? It seems to me like the Imerys management in Sylacauga doesn't give a damn about its hourly employees (unless you're a goon). And little do they know management doesn't care about them either. The profits need to be passed on down the line to the ones who give so much for so little. UNION YES!!

FOR YOUR INFORMATION: McClouth Steel in Detroit is union/employee owned. The company was going under, and with the help of United Steel Workers, the employees bought the plant. It is still in production today.
