Thank you to all my fellow employees who posted my message up at work and shook my hand, it wasn't what I was looking for, but it was nice..
What I want to say is this:
1. Union dues were only 23 or 24 dollars a MONTH.Never more than that..
2. If you didn't want in, you didn't have to be in,no one would ostracise you or treat you differently. And on top of that, you'd STILL get the benefits the Unionizers did..
3. A few people have submitted that some ECC jobs paid more than their GM counterparts..This may be true to an extent, but I'll lay you 50-1 odds that we were a lot happier. The supervisors treated us as individuals with ideas and home lives, not automatons at their beck and whim..
4. The union and mgt. have a contract that binds them to pay, hours, benefits, etc.. noone can break it..Ask me face to face about the most recent examples of two individuals who had more work put upon them, but their payrates are going DOWN!!
5. NO!! The union is not perfect and cannot solve every problem to the satisfaction of everyone. But it DOES enforce a majority rule of the EMPLOYEES not a select few in management.
6. While we're on the subject, does anyone remember being asked if they wanted to go on swings in Shipping? Actually, we plant 3 bulkloaders were..We voted NO SWINGS, yet, here we are swinging.. I remember the first big meeting of the merger... who spoke the words, "We're going to spend more time with our families and we'll have FUN!!"?? Does anyone remember that individual??
7. This is probably going to make a few of you mad, but you know my name, not a pseudonym, lay off Mike, Kelly and the others you suspect of being "Goons". While they may or may not be getting breaks the rest of us aren't, that's just more of a reason to get our UNION back!! Use your gift of gab for positive purposes (i.e. UNIONIZATION)
I've said enough for this evening. If anyone has a complaint or comment about anything I've said, please see me at Plant 3 Bulkloading. Ask anybody at Georgia Marble, they'll tell you who and where I am..
Thanks for "listening"..God Bless
