First of all, I would like to say that you don't work for ECC anymore. You work for the same company that owned US at Georgia Marble.
When you talk about the pay rates, there were several jobs that paid quite a bit more then ECC. Of course, when Randy Sandrick had our first meeting about the merger, he promised that everyones wages would be equalized. Of course, we have found out that equalized pay was just another lie filled with empty promises.
Also, you would benefit from the UNION through the same way that other employees benefit (for example, note working conditions at Alabama Power, UPS, Blue Circle, University professionals, etc. all union companys). Honestly speaking, what non-union plant in the area would you WANT to work for (textile mills, chicken factories...)! ECC used to compete with us as far as pay rates and benefits, but who will they compete with now?? Russell? Avondale? Sylvest Chicken farm?
Remember, Frank Huthcinsons and Randy Sandricks favorite saying "if you don't like the way things are, then you can just leave". That attitude towards its employees should tell you enough about how to appreciate your time and work with the company.
Another note, when we worked under a Union we were all treated fairly. There was none of this vicious plotting done by managment to undermine the employees working together. We used to sincerly care about one another, now managment keeps us seperated thru fear.
Just some thoughts to think about that if you do work at either plant, you know thru experience that these are the words of truth.
