Trence,
I appreciate your comments, but would like to tell you a little bit about the Union. The Union is US, THE WORKERS. It is not a group of people that tells us what to do, like the company would for like for us to believe. We will decide what is best for US and the company. The International supplies the tools, education and resources. We have tried for years to have the company respect our seniority and to rule out favoritism. A majority of us are tired of hearing that "if you don't like it, then you can leave". We have invested a lot of our time and our lives in this company, but that doesn't matter to these people. If you have worked here for any length of time, you will find out how much favoritism rules. Just look around. It is obvious. On one job posting, seniority matters, on another, it does not. And then again, qualifications for the job matters, and then sometimes it doesn't. It all depends on who they have hand picked for the job. And sometimes, it is by the "buddy system".
We have no gaurantees from the company. If you will look everything we have (i.e. insurance, benefits, bonus, raises, and security) it states that it can be changed at anytime at the will of the company. All we are asking for is a written contract that cannot be changed to suit favoritism or the whim of managment. You have no call back rights, no seniority, no protection and basically no job security. Company policies concerning its employees change with every CEO or idea that managment may have and all that you can do is hope that it doesn't effect you.
What would you rather be comfortable with...hope or a legal contract?
