Hello again to the brothers and sisters.I heard through the grapevine (I have some in my city backyard)that supporters of Crown wondered whether the folks who went to the Interfaith Meeting got to hear about the Crown campaign. Have no fear...I brought lots of literature with me, and the opening slide show of labor happenings featured a group of Crown Boycott supporters in front of Crown corporate headquarters. The pictures were great. Also, we got to target issues by geographic region, and I shared Crown information with the Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia regions and emphasized how lockouts will continue. A Virginia minister said his church people are also facing lockouts, and he wants everybody to understand this problem. There were several Jesuit priests (like Father Ridley) and Jesuit volunteers present, and I informed them that not all the Jesuits are supportive of labor. One Jesuit, Fr. Ed Doyle, runs the last "labor college" left in the US. In the final press conference, the Interfaith committee listed priorities for the future, and locked out workers at Crown are there. I am confident the attendees from the Crown gasoline states have an up-to-date picture of recent events. It's always good to meet new labor friends, as you well know. Also, to Pasadena locked out workers, Father Sinclair Oubre, who first told us of the Crown situation, came for the AFL convention. He had just addressed Catholic school teachers in Pittsburgh. He wanted to know how the Baltimore supporters were doing, and shared his ideas for the Crown campaign. We assured him religion-labor friends have been active!
