Thanks to Brother Doug from UNITE for his great report on the Jobs with Justice meeting at UMASS at Dartmouth, a 100% unionized campus! I attended the meeting, and especially enjoyed the labor-religion meeting held on Friday. Representatives of the National Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice were there, along with hundreds of students, workers, and members of religious groups. Thanks to the Reverend Jim Orange, who highlighted the Crown struggle at the plenary session, where we were introduced to a film on Martin Luther King's final struggle-the striking sanitation workers of Memphis, Tennessee. What a privilege for conference-goers to hear from the original workers in that 1968 struggle. At the barbecue, Karen Sloan, locked-out worker from Crown, addressed the group along with others who are in work disputes. Karen spoke eloquently and from the heart about the long lockout, and what she had to put up with at the workplace. Women came up with tears in their eyes and thanked Karen for her testimony. We were all encouraged and energized by the great fighting spirit of the 700 attendees. "BOYCOTT CROWN" rang through the participants after Karen's talk. Thanks to all and to Jobs with Justice for a great meeting!Mary Kambic
