Boycott Table at Catholic Conference

Friends,
Saturday, March 4, was the 21st annual Social Ministry Convocation of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Over 300 people attended our day-long gathering with talks by national speakers, and workshops offered by local people involved in soup kitchens, housing, justice issues, etc. As I have been on the planning board of the meeting together with Catholic Charities, Catholic Relief Services, and Catholic Campaign for Human Development, I had the opportunity to inform attendees of the Crown Boycott through conversations and our literature table. This year Catholics for Justice at Crown Central Petroleum again had a table displaying literature and newspaper clippings about Crown, plus leaflets explaining that Father Harold Ridley, SJ, president of Loyola college is on the Board of Directors of Crown. Labor members Father Joseph Bonadio, Paul Booth, Chuck Michaels (who received an award for his parish justice work), and myself all attended the meeting and had the chance to sit at our table greeting the participants. Since our Archdiocese covers the area all the way to Western Maryland, we were happy to reach Catholics from Hagerstown and Libertytown who attended the meeting. THis meeting is always well-attended, but our new location boosted registrants quite a bit. I know more people will be boycotting Crown!... Mary Kambic
