Catholics for Justice at Crown have obtained a copy of a letter sent by St. Matthews parishioner Gerry Selby to Father Joseph Kennedy, S.J. of the Jesuit Mission Bureau: Dear Father Kennedy, I have supported the Jesuit Missions for along time-going back to my Loyola high days in the early '50s. For not quite as long I have been aware of a situation in Pasadena, Texas involving workers for the Crown Central Petroleum Corp. Further, it is my understanding that Fr. Harold Ridley, S.J., president of Loyola College, and a member of Crown's Board of Directors, refuses to meet with my parish priest and others to even discuss the issue. I am appalled at Fr. Ridley's un-Christian demeanor. While Fr. Ridley hopefully is not representative of all Jesuits, nonetheless, my simple protest is to no longer supprort the Jesuits in any way. Please re-direct my monthly reminders to Father Ridley. I'm sure he can continue my support out of his director's fees. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

In a response to Mr.Selby, Father Ridley says he is willing to arrange meetings with company officials for any parties who truly wish to hear the company's position on the lockout in Texas. He says"Father Muth is not such a party. He is a pro-union activist who, from his pulpit, called for a local boycott of Crown before he ever sought to learn what Crown's position might be. He is presently part of a broad corporate campaign designed to bring pressure on the dirctors of the company by letters such as yours and by any other means."

This is the latest from the religious wars in Baltimore!
