| ...On a more serious note, I just happened to have started reading an
essay titled "Happiness and Individualism: A Very Difficult Union" by Stefano Zamagni. I imagine that what Zamagni has to say might have some bearing on David's question but I was brought up short by a sentence on the first page: "[in conventional economic theory] models are generated where what is analysed is essentially an autistic behavior: the understanding of the mental states of the other is simply not considered at all, nor are sympathy and empathy given a proper role in the explanation of economic decisions in intereractive contexts." |
