WE HAVE learned the towing company at the center of a News5 Investigation earlier this month has surrendered its permitting license for the City of Pueblo.

This license had allowed RMA towing to operate at a location on 8th and Santa Fe.

RMA declined to comment about why they decided to give up their license, but we uncovered this doesn't mean they won't be able to operate anymore.

RMA Towing still has a valid PUC license from the State of Colorado, meaning they can go operate anywhere in the state.

If RMA chooses to stay in Pueblo, they can move to a different location, register a new address, and apply for a license.

One property owner is defending RMA, saying the company has done an outstanding job clearing illegally parked vehicles out of his lot.

“People would be throwing beer bottles and we found ourselves constantly cleaning up our lots,” property manager and owner James Gilbertson said.

Gilbertson says on weekends, bar patrons would park their cars in his lot and leave behind a mess.

After Gilbertson says he tried talking with bar owners about the problem, he decided to call towing companies to see if they could help solve the issue.

Gilbertson says RMA was the only company who would tow vehicles after-hours in a private lot.

Cell phone video that went viral on YouTube earlier this month shows RMA Towing improperly dragging two cars out of Gilbertson's lot.

RMA told us they did what they needed to do given the circumstances of the situation.

According to RMA, bar patrons had allegedly been harassing the tow truck drivers and jumping on the back of the truck trying to get the driver to drop the vehicle.

The YouTube video of the tows has sparked outrage in the community and protests outside RMA's main office.
